About This Course
The Biblical Social Justice course is designed to help participants understand and engage with the intersection of faith, justice, and the marginalized. The course is led by Gigi Kazi and covers a wide range of topics, including God’s design for justice and equity, the role of Old Testament prophets and principles in understanding justice, the revolutionary message of Jesus in relation to empire, and the importance of community in the pursuit of justice.
Throughout the course, participants will be encouraged to engage with their own lived experiences and use them as a tool to more deeply understand scripture. This includes an examination of oppressive ideologies and theologies that are often presented as the norm, and how they contribute to the oppression of marginalized communities. The course also includes a focus on the intersection of race and faith, and how the American church has historically been complicit in racism.
In addition to the course content, the course includes a variety of resources such as books, podcasts, artists, organizations, and scholars to help participants continue their journey of learning and understanding. These resources include works by authors such as Lisa Sharon Harper, Jamar Tissie, Dr. Angela Parker, and Dr. Renita Weems, as well as organizations such as Divesting from Whiteness and The Witness Foundation.
The course is designed for people who are interested in understanding and engaging with social justice issues from a faith-based perspective. It is particularly relevant for those who are looking to deconstruct and decolonize their inherited faith, and for those who are looking to connect their faith with their work for justice. The course is approximately 7 hours long and is divided into 6 modules.
